Can anyone tell me what a rocking bowsprit is?? Apparently my boat has one but I cannot for the life of me see how, when, why it rocks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
I have never heard of this term or description of bowsprit. However I have been sailing on a Thompson 9.8 sports yacht recently with an extending spin pole like a bowsprit but from below deck level, which not only extends by pulling ropes but can turn to port or starboard by about 30 degrees by pulling more ropes. The pole is stowed inside the cabin at an angle so it lays next to the inside of the hull in the bow. it seems to be at least 2 metres long although perhaps extends 1.5 metres.
It is all very scary. Yes you would know it idf you had one of these.

Ah - dinghy term for the rope controlling the port/stb movement is a "Wanger" ... hence regular shouts of "WANGER" from the front of the boat can be heard ... (helm controls it u c!) ....
I'd hazzard a guess that that is what they mean ...
