I discovered this central-Solent real-time wind-reporting website last year. It doesn't forecast, just tells you what the Calshot float has encountered in recent hours...

...except, it seems to have stopped actually telling the wind speed/direction. Anybody know why? Here's the link: http://rock7.com/wind/

Bramblmet on Bramble Bank has also been out of action for the last couple of weeks (I was hoping to use it to plan a sail around new year). Apparently the problem has been a power issue:

We apologise that the site is suffering from intermittent data transmission issues. This is caused by a power issue on the beacon. An engineer will visit the beacon when conditions permit.

Rock 7 is also controlled by ABP Southampton so maybe it's the same issue?

If you need to know current Solent wind conditions a good place to start is Hill Head Sailing Club's weather station: http://www.hillheadsc.org.uk/weather-station/

Thanks, I'll try to remember that.

Never been over to Hill Head. Might make a good destination for a day-sail. :encouragement:

You would be welcome. Beach outside dries about 2.5m above datum but shallow draft boats (less than about 0.6m) can stay afloat alongside our pontoon. Harbour is exposed to East and Southeast.

Just a +1 for windycator. BBC weather shows 6 mph winds whereas actual reading is 2 on this great site. Now saved to my phone for real time wind speed and direction. Spot on yesterday, morning calm and flat on solent, picked up later in the day as accurately shown on the site.

Replaces the rock 7 feed and has lots of stations reporting in.

No relationship with site, just so pleased to have found it particularly as wife doesn't like slamming at the best of times!!
