OG had the pleasure of attending the opening of their new clubhouse today.Several members of the UK rowing team in attendance.Club has been going in one form another since around 1895.
Rowing is very popular at the moment and they have had to close the books regards new members for a while.
After some "hospitality",the subject of wash was discussed.
Basically their view is that the river is used by all sorts and they just deal with it.
Did mention that most boaters are aware of the problem that wash can cause to rowers and will slow down if we spot them and a friendly wave of thanks is always appreciated by us MoBoers.
They did organise a "University" race a few years ago but the cuts in education led to the withdrawal of funding from UOG.
 
In a brief moment of excitement did once offer to buy all my friends a drink on my birthday.
Fortunately somebody pointed out that I did not have any friends.
The 10 shilling note has been carefully returned to a place of safety. !

Same attitude I try to give the rowers I coach at Longridge. Bit difficult to give MoBoers a wave when you're going along in your boat, but not too difficult for the coaches ;)
Always good to see that not every club is going for the standard view of things. :P
 
I wonder how they get on when the cuxton water skiers are out in force, they had three skiing tow boats out the other weekend.

You may be interested to know that a couple of folks from the ski club were present at the meeting enjoying the hospitality.
Lady who appears to run the club,forget about the BIBs(Blokes in Blazers),said they have to get on with everybody.

Not sure how the wimps up on the Thames would cope with a couple of large ski boats complete with two people hanging on for grim death towed behind going past every 10 mins at 25 knots
Then again we are all real men down here. :)

OG would also like to mention that he got a kiss from the lady deputy mayoress and will not be washing for several weeks at least.
