Not boaty at all, but I have just read two of his books and reckon he must be one of the most overlooked and under-rated authors of the last century. He was a Scottish writer, mainly writing in the immediate post second world war years, and on each page I found something that made me stop and think - Wow! Some beautifully crafted phrases, believable plots, interesting characters - all in all, a wonderfully competent and emotive author.
The books I read were "The Cone-gatherers" and "The Changeling". Highly recommended.
