Hi,
Thanks to those who helped with opinions last week on the Robber.
Ive seen a Robber 3e ( cruising spec ) for sale.
Does anyone have any useful information/ experience of this model specifically and how it differs from the race version, as I dont seem to be able to find much on the web.

Thnaks and Regards

I owned a 3e for 3 or 4 years. Mine had been converted to a 3/4 rig rather than the original masthead.

Nearly standing headroom, tremendous beam so even with the pilot beths there was plenty of room in the saloon. Much nearer the average 28/30 footer in terms of space.

Not a ball of fire in very light winds - too much wetted surface area. But with a bit a breeze pretty quick and very powerful - the weather helm built a little but still reasonable with the gunwale down. Managed to surf it a few times in 20 odd kts.

Mine had plywood decks which were a bit of an issue and needed work. The bottom/keel joint was not very robust and needs to be looked at. I beefed up mine with some part ribs. Take care on a trailer or stands the flat area aft of the keel does not have a lot of strnegth and the weight on the keel can distort it. My trailer needed the aft supports raised quite a bit to remove the 'hook' on that panel.

There are still a few raced so they should be well equipped, most had outboard (mine did too) which is ok, I used to sail into a marina berth a lot of the time - they handle very much like big dinghies.

The original Robber had a cambered deck with no cabin and so is a very different kettle of fish, the 3e is very civilised by comparison.
