Hi all,

looking to buy a new dinghy, not too sure what to get. Need a tender as well as a dry boat when we explore rivers and estuary's.

Any help greatly app.

Dinghies and tenders

Can you be a bit more specific? It's not clear whether you are looking to buy or for advice. Nor whether you want a sailing dinghy that might be useable as a tender, or a tender that might be suitable for other uses.

Assuming the latter and that you are a newbie looking for general advice about tenders, here are some of the things you might consider:

Type can be solid, inflatable, or folding.
Construction can be Wood, aluminium, GRP or 'rubber'-like plastics.
How far will you need to row, does it need to be a good pulling boat?
Do you want to use it with an outboard, or with a sail perhaps?
Do you want it to double as a life-boat?
How many people do you need to carry?
How big is your yacht?
When sailing, do you want to carry it on board, tow it, or leave it on your mooring?
Is weight an issue - will you have to hump it around on land, or lift it onto the yacht?
Do you plan to use it with davits?
Where will you store it when not in use the boat - do you need a trailer?

They have just done a decent survey on a few inflatables.
