We want to see some sample flooring so we can work out which way to go with revitalising our old Konsort cockpit. Ordinary diamond treadmaster I can visualise no problem, but Treadmaster do synthetic teak that I'd like to see up close. And I know Tek Dek are at Emsworth. Can anyone point to places where I can see and touch synthetic teak flooring and get ideas on costs. Half my treadmaster is up already, (the easy half) , where I thought I was going to stop, but I have been gently persuaded I really ought to carry on :). I'm only looking at a medium sized cockpit - not the side decks of a forty footer and don't want to break the bank. Chandlery recommendations or more specific specialist recommendations both welcome. (Online recommendations also welcome, but tomorrow could be a road trip).

I have got samples through the post from one of the teak deck suppliers and one of the cork decking suppliers. I can't remember the names, as it was a couple of years before Covid. However, before going on a 'road trip' I would request samples first, then work out the area and get prices, then perhaps visit if I thought there was milage in that.

I didn't go ahead because the Treadmaster actually cleaned up well and the damaged bits got patched. It was a cost decision for me as I had spent a small fortune refitting the boat and just wanted to go sailing.

They all looked really good and I would go down this road instead of diamond pattern Treadmaster in future. I liked the cork, tough but soft, good insulator.

Thanks Alex. That has revealed Marine Decking Services that use Permateek. But part of my motivation for posting is to get YBW forum input/experiences. I have done various google searches but often the forum input really helps.

I've got the area etc, I'm at the point of needing to touch and look at colours. My "road trip" is really because I'm over that way anyway and it is always nice to combine journeys.....

If you are looking at treadmaster, make sure you look at their 'smooth' pattern, It seems just as non-slip but is much less aggressive and far more comfortable for sitting/kneeling. I fitted it in 2010 and it's as good as new (nearly).

Elite Teak in Gosport do one that's not flexiteak, I can't remember the name but it was a little harder and more wood like, it may have been permateak. It's not a recommendation as I've not yet used them, I'm still waiting for the call after the boat show year before last where they quoted about £2k for my cockpit, seats and swim platform on a 36 footer which I thought was pretty reasonable for a fitted cost. I'd have paid more if they'd called back and fitted it!

BOAT TEAK DECKING | SYNTHETIC TEAK DECKING

There was a flexiteak one in Hamble that had more colours, and more realistic colour mixes but was a bit softer. My feeling after playing at the boat show was once you lay it you won't tell the difference.

I have permateek on my side decks (30' sailing boat), fitted professionally about 8 years ago. It's been excellent and looks as good now as it did originally. I chose the 'weathered teak' colour and find it's a very good match for the real teak that I have on the cockpit seats. The permateek gets hotter in the sunshine than the real teak which may be an issue if you have it on seats. Other than that, it's tough, grippy, easy to clean (I just pressure wash it) and looks good.

If it's that hot a bucket of sea water can cool it. I figure the plastic won't degrade and it's easy to clean so no issues putting seawater all over it. It's not like you're wearing your best slacks in that kind of heat anyway, usually.

We have had Flexiteak on side decks and cockpit since build - if you want to see a few boats with Flexiteak or suchlike being professionally installed I’m sure a call to suppliers might direct you to say Hamble point marina where you might watch them retrofitting to a new Hanse etc and rolling it out like carpet etc. it’s quite interesting to watch how they do it if you happen to be visiting but I guess they visit elsewhere to retrofit . Also look on mobo forum . Ours has so far lasted since 2015 without incident. It does get hot in summer but that’s why I would not put it on cabin top although you see it done. I would attach pics if they didn’t end up upside down!

Thanks for the pointers. Just back from the "road trip". In the process I have visited Tek Dek, chatted to a Flexi teek agent and popped into a chandlery. Also saw more Treadmaster options at a trade only place. And heard of two operators around Chichester who install synthetic teak. However unless I get a pleasant e mail suprise it looks likely I will be going for a Treadmaster option as that is relatively affordable and DIY. It could be this one Treadmaster Atlanteak 2.0 Natural (White Caulking) . Would love to hear if anyone has used atlanteak themselves.
What I have learned in the process is that synthetic teak flooring is not really a Chandlery product, other than Treadmaster. And maybe I need a big shiny mobo :)
