Road transport for a 35\' yacht W.Wales to E Coast ?

Can anyone recommend a firm for the transportation by road of a 35' yacht, 5 ton displacement. from W. Wales to Suffolk ?

Boat is not seaworthy and I'd like to get it home to work on.

So many firms that advertise. I would prefer to use one that is recommended.

I've had one quote so far but I have no idea what the going rate is, any experiences welcome.

I've used Glibert Brown & Son a few times for a smaller boat and been very pleased. They're based in Cumbria though - don't know if you want someone more local to either end. The number is 015394 36480.

They are based in Hawkshead but take boats from Cumbria all over the country so could have an empty wagon in Wales quite easily. Their trucks are custom built for carrying yachts.

you might get it a bit cheaper if you are not in a hurry, i.e. if the transporter is in the area already

Where in W.Wales...Milford area? Give Dale Sailing a call and ask if they can recommend anyone locally? Do an internet search and you'll find them easily enough. There's a good guy in Cardiff who I used last year...I'll need to dig out his number for you...it might cost a bit more if he has to go to West Wales and then backtrack, but his rates are reasonable in my opinion.

Since you will pay for the return journey why not think about a Suffolk based company - Debbage Yachting at Ipswich. Several of us use them for some complicated but short distance work and they are thorough and easy to get on with.

Ring 01473-601169 and ask for Chris

Thanks for all your replies so far.
I'll give the local hauliers recommended a call and see how I get on.
Obviously I'd like to get the boat back asap, but would be prepared to wait if there was a significant saving.

I am in the process of getting a boat back from Porthmadoc and the current owners recommended Steve of Seafix 01766 514 507. They said he has done all their previous boats and indeed he carted it up to Wales from the yard round the corner from us 5 years ago.

paul morgan (01348 811319) fishguard moves caravans and boats for me regularly...he is the most helpful and expert 'mover' i've come accross in years...and one of the cheapest!

My son has used Seafix every time he has wanted a boat moved. Excellent service he says. But I thought his name was Paul. At least that was what I called him last time I met him, and he didn't seem to object. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
