That's Griff Rhys-Jones and Dara O'Briain in the pic below. 2/3rds of BBC's three men in a boat series. Publicising RNLI SOS Day

Thanks to Ian from RNLI station Crosshaven for posted same on cpb. We got our 2009 offshore membership card and boat sticker and within days the latest RNLI mags arrived.

For anybody involved in boating or watersports activity it's a small price to pay to support the RNLI's rescue services. The funds go towards lifeboats, maintenance, machinery, lifeboat stations and equipment, the man and girl power including crews are volunteers who are not paid a penny for their generosity, skills, professionalism and dedication. They deserve all the support they get from us the leisure boating community and from professional mariners. These guys and gals are there all hours of the day and night to rescue us and our loved ones if we get into trouble on the water.

They deserve our continued support.

That's fair comment, I suppose the independants get most of their support from their own local communities. I presume there are complex and historical local reasons why they didn't become part of the RNLI or Coast Guard setup.

It's the same here with some locally funded community boats. But the IRCG tend to only allocate "designated resource" status to RNLI and CG rescue stations, and MRCC will only task RNLI and CG assets to call outs. The local boats here tend to react to direct phone calls or VHF calls on their patch. RNLI stations are most often manned by dedicated locals heavily involved in the local maritime community.
