Hello there. . .I am currently - ( STILL !) restoring one of the last of these from 1953. . .almost there. I need to know about the boat cover that was used when the boat was on the deck of the mother ship. First and main thing is. . . can anyone tell me what the colour of boatcovers used in the Navy was in the 1940/50s please ?
Any other info would be great.
Thanks. . .Erik and ' Dragonfly'

It's stretching my memory but, as far as I recall, any thing on my first ship (HMS Gambia, 1958-1961) that needed a cover had it made from standard grey naval canvas, painted if necessary (like anything else that didn't move).

Well. . . I worked it all out over here. . . .Cloth . .Sauledo Panama Acrylic from Kayospruce. . . .my old Singer coped fine with it. 'Dragonfly' is just about finished after 7 years, and will launch in the Holy Loch in June with any luck .

Royal Navy fast Motor Dinghy ' Dragonfly'- - - -restoration complete

YES !!! after 7 long , but joyful years, 'Dragonfly' is ready for service. We did the testing on the River Charente which turns out to be fine for cruisers, but the " Skimming Dish" is just too powerful !! Speed limits and river banks are not what she was conceived for !! I am hoping to have an article come out in a boat mag, and also want to create a website for the whole story . I hope I will manage to get at least one photo up on screen here . . . . . Please excuse the White Ensign. . .on this special occasion she deserved to fly it. and I am so proud of her. What an engine ! that Coventry Climax KF4 !! If you want any more pics or info. . .just contact me on : erikpam@me.com
Cheers. . .Erik
