I have recently bought a Dufour 32 Classic and am having difficulty with the RM Sealock Marine Toilet (manual). Despite much gurgling no water will enter the toilet (I've made sure the seacock is open) even though when water is poured into the bowl it is pumped away very effectively. Any suggestions please?

there is a recent thread about the same phenomenon in another toilet brand

I have the same toilet, and the same problem every time the boat is launched: personally, I move up and down the pump handle at the highest possible speed, /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif and generally the water inlet primes itself and the toilet begins to work

otherwise, going for a sail and heeling the boat may also help

The flapper valve that controls the inlet water are a bit of a pig with these. It is mounted under the cover at the rear of the main pump - 6 screws if my memory servers me well - clean this out as the slightest piece of weed or dirt will stop this working. If you need to replace any thing give me a PM - I have a service kit for one of these you can have at a silly price.

I have two RM69's, one of them got blocked with weed last year but it was obvious that no water could be pumped in because of the vacuum caused. Quite often it needs a good deal of priming after having been left for a while. It feels like it is pumping nothing, no resistance or anything and then all of a sudden there's the water. I would advise taking it to bits and replacing the rubber bits in case they have perished, quite an easy task providing it's all clean!
Get at it all via the bottom screws rather than those at the top by the pump handle.

Isn't the Sealock different? Access from the top?

Might be wrong as not yet had to strip it.

Find the Sealock benefits from slower pumping.

Thanks for the advice. I followed a tip from a US site and it worked! Fill the toilet bowl to the rim, this means that water will flow back through the inlet pipe and hopefully remove any air block, also pump the toilet gently a few times and it may help remove any item blocking the inlet. I then emptied the bowl and to my delight as I switched to flush water came through almost immediately!
