Hi - I see there is a moorings officer for the River Teign. But can someone local give me a bit of info re moorings in the Teign please/ I have a bilge keel Sabre 27.
- are the mooring privately owned?
- can they be rented for a season?
- roughly what is the cost?
- what is availability like (for next season)?
- how does sailing on the Teign compare to the Exe (my other option)?
- do any sailing clubs have morrings?
- does anyone have a mooring available?

Any other comments welcomed.

Thanks

Mike

Mike,

All moorings are controlled & allocated by Teignmouth Harbour Commissioner 01626 779294.

I am not sure of availability for drying moorings but you may be lucky, cost is £200 p.a. approx. The waiting list for permanent wet moorings is several years.

I have a drying mooring in the area where if you got one you would probably be, if so you would be restricted to picking up & leaving your mooring for 2 hours only on either side of high tide, I have 1 metre draught.

There is no sailing in the estuary below shaldon bridge as it is a commercial port. Tides are normally 3 knots and it can also be dangerous crossing the bar with stong easterlies.

There is very limited car parking in the summer.

Concur with Dave Bray on availability etc regarding Teign.

With a Sabre 27 you will be sailing out of rather than within either river. Exe a longer haul in/out but more space.

Moorings available on Exe but "feudal" system and planned management changes too complex to summarise here. PM me if you want more info.

It does not take long to get out of Teignmouth, even with a strong tide. Also as a previous poster has mentioned the entrance can get a bit lively in an easterly breeze. However, getting out of the Exe can take a long time. The drying moorings vary in how much time you get each side of high water but they will put you in the most suitable place. Forget parking in Shaldon if you are that side. There is a car park at Polly steps on the Teignmouth side with dinghy racks, but this gets very busy on Summer weekends with folk launching ribs, PWC etc. If you can get yourself sorted out here it really is a fantastic place to sail with Torquay, Brixham, Dartmouth, Exmouth all being fairly close. If you have never been here it might be best to visit to get a feel of the place. PM if you want any more information.
