My current ECP recommends entrance to the Ore 2 hours before HW - but doesn't tell you when is best to leave  presumably a similiar time (before the ebb starts).

My 1998 East Coast Rivers advises entrance and exit 1 hour after LW.

My boat draws 1.7m.

As I hope to go there on 19th June when HW is midday then entry time will determine if I can do it one hit from Bradwell or if a night in the Orwell will be necessary. Ditto leaving Aldeburgh and getting out and back in one.

leave when the tide turns at Orford Quay, sail down the river with 0 on the depth gauge out of the tide, very satisfying with boats out in the tide gunning their engines

Been into the Ore twice this year and both times there was less than a metre under us between oxley and weir buoys. Both times about hw-2 hrs

I might give the LW suggestion a miss then :) although a certain forumite on a boys trip did do it a LW cos he misread the tide table :D We know who you are.......

It was, ahem, several forumites, but the Rich Owner, as a Skipper must bear full responsibility.
I believe he has sold the boat and moved pontoon so that people don't point at him anymore.

My Pilot book recommends exiting in the first couple of hours of the flood which worked for me as it gave me the run of the tide down the coast to the Orwell. I did it a month or so ago and arrived at the bar about an hour after HW, the tide was not running to fast at the bar and I had sufficient depth (But then my draft is about 65cm!)

Good luck with your crossing

Ooh!
I've just noticed that we are the East Coast Sailing magazine's featured photo this month, not quite Playmate of the month but I'm pleased.:)
It shows us anchored at the entrance waiting for enough water over the bar. We need 1.8m plus a bit of bouncing space, so we dropped down on the last of the ebb, have breakfast / lunch, bit of beach-combing and a snooze.

The entrance configuration changed considerably last year and is now not very deep anywhere! Locals and fishing boats go out early on the flood but with your draft it would probably be safest to wait until the tide has flooded for more than one hour.
As Dan has said, anchoring somewhere near the entrance while you wait for enough water is the best bet. All depends on barometer and wind direction as to how exactly how much there will be on the day.
Would strongly advise that you download a copy of 2012 River Ore Entrance chartlet from www.eastcoastrivers.com and when entering or exiting watch out for the clay shelves that stick out from the shore just upstream of the old orange beacon.
Hope the weather improves for your trip...
