Does anyone know if it is possible to land and leave a dinghy at Greenway Quay in order to visit Agatha Christie's house? If not what are the alternatives?

Last time we were there... And this must be 5 years ago.... Iirc the Greenway side you couldn't leave a dingy.... But the Dittsham side there is plenty of room... And then you can catch the ferry across...

Otoh pick up a visitors mooring and they will come along side and take you ashore... You even used to be able To catch the ferry into Dartmouth...

We left our dinghy on the Greenway quay while visiting the house and there was no problem. That was in 2011. Moor the dinghy on the shore side end of the quay as the day tripper boat sometimes visits the outer end and the Dittisham ferry goes in the middle.

I seem to recall that a couple of years ago when we were there we pulled the dinghy ashore to the north of the ferry quay. Could be wrong. Certainly we left it there. The little row from the anchor stone to greenaway against the ebb was enough to reveal the limitations of Bombard rowlocks...

You even get a discount for arriving by water ... but you may need to pay a fee for leaving the dinghy. Beware the very slippy ramp for the dinghy!

The fee for landing and leaving your dinghy is aprx £1/person.

Free to leave you dinghy on the other side but the ferry will cost each person £3 there and back.

Not made at all welcome at Greenaway Quay today.
Told we could not leave our dinghy next to either slip. Tried to secure it next to the slippery slip and was shouted at!
For the this sort of treatment they wanted £1 for the dinghy and £1 for each person.
This is a total liberty as they don't provide anything to land on or tie up to.
You can leave your dinghy on the Dittisham side and get the ferry but it costs £2 per person each way.

With this sort of treatment I suggest you give Greenaway a miss and go elsewhere.

You do have to check for occasional murders there which are invariably investigated by Poirot

Problem is that the quay is nothing to do with the house. It's privately owned. They charge you to land so you take the ferry, which they also run. The ferryman is happy to collect you from your boat if you're moored up at Ditsum, and then return you there, but it does cost £3/head each way.

Not withstanding this, the house is worth a visit, even if just for a walk around the amazing gardens and the view of the Dart from different aspects.

Ive often considered tying the dinghy to bushes near Greenaway boathouse (which has had the mooring rings removed) but never actually tried it.

Enjoy your visit.

We were in in Dittsham 4 days ago and had been assured by a local in the Ferry Boat Inn that taking a dinghy alongside Greenway Quay wasn't an option. The DHNA River Officer dispelled the myth the next morning and suggested we call Greenway Ferry on Ch 10 and ask for berthing instructions - the very welcoming ferryboat man informed us that taking the dinghy was by far the cheapest way to visit, that we should tie it up on the outer end of the first pontoon south of the quay and landing fees were £1 for the dinghy plus £1 per person and we were welcome to stay as long as we wanted.

If you're there over LW Springs do raise the outboard tho as you may end up with the prop in the mud.......

The house wasn't as great as expected but the walks around the grounds were very good.
