NOTICE TO MARINERS No 13 of 2014

RIVER BED SURVEY - RIVERS CROUCH & ROACH

Notice is hereby given that ABP Mer will be carrying out Survey Work on
behalf of the RSPB off Holliwell Point up River to Paglesham on River Roach.

Survey work will also take place on River Crouch in the vicinity of

. Crouch Light Buoy

. Horse Shoal Channel (Horse Shoal Light Buoy to Fairway No 1 Light
Buoy)

. Fairway Buoys No 2 and No 9

Work is due to commence Wednesday 24th September 2014 and weather permitting
be completed within 8 days.

The Survey vessel 'HYDRO 1' is a small 18 feet Rib fitted with portable VHF
and will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 11.

Hmm, I cannot help but wonder why the RSPB want a survey of such a large area of the river bed

And it also occurs to me that hand held VHF or not they should be maintaining a listening watch on Ch16
 
Dual Watch capability.

Well yes, one would assume so (even my dirt cheap Cobra can do it) but odd that it isn't stated. It's ambiguous and I don;t like ambiguity when it comes to navigation and safety matters!

Ch.11 is the usual working channel for Watchful and the CHA RIB but initial contact is normally by Ch.16 and then change channel (as one would expect)
