Hi all

Just looking for some info on this area. What is it like as a cruising ground? Are there many Mobo's on the River and Lough? Are there many marinas? Is it navigable from Lough to sea?

Any other info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Very shallow around the shores so if you see a small propellor I would like it back. Some moorings at Antrim and a small marina at Craigavon, (south end). Don't think the canal is a goer, due to the condition of the locks but could be wrong. Coleraine has a weir too to add to the fun, you might get over at HW. Has the colour of tea btw, some fish and lots of big eels /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif .

However if your going that far then stick to the sea. Antrim Coast with Rathlin Island superb. Portrush with Ice cream and kiss me quick hats good with nice harbour. Small one at Port Stewart and marina at Coleraine a couple of miles North of the town. New marina at Ballycastle then the impressive cliffs rise up around to the Antrim Glens. More little harbours down to Larne which is a bit commerical. Old castle at Carrickfergus protects the old harbour and new marina a mile south (entrance very shallow at LW). Don't go into Belfast docks its very commerical. Bangor Marina as good as any south coast marinas. 'Ards peninsula again very pretty with dozens of little harbours mostly free.

Strangford lough with its wirlpool a jem and not to be missed.

Avoid Bangor in the marching season though apparently

but good place would love to have explored there more
saw an entire weddding party ( none of them on the small side) outside the chippy eating kebab and chips with bridesamids holding bride's dress off the floor

pointed it this out to local friendly drunk
who proceeded to to tell me how ''its just a quiet wee seaside town''

at the same time the ushers and some other locals started fighting
when i pointed out this was not in keeping wiht normal quiet seaside town status he jsut smiled
said they were ''only having a wee play''
when he saw i looked doubtful he shouted at them and they stopped immediatley and apologised!
great place
Huuuge marina
never managed to make out the sectored light on the approach though.

Lough Neagh can get horribly rough in bad weather. Bangor Marina is very nice. Strangford lough - some great diving, but watch the speed of current, it can be really fierce and cause a standing wall of water where the lough meets the sea - once tried a drift dive in the entrance and got our plan about 15 minutes wrong and had a VERY exciting experience.

Exciting isn't it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif had a couple of goes at reaching the bottom of the narrows on a drift dive, but always planned it so we would be washed up in the lough.

Playing in the wirlpool an experience, would stop the rib dead in its tracks and then throw you out sideways.

The province has some great coastline, thankfully much of it unspoilt
