I have the genoa sheet leading to the car under the lower guard rail currently. Not having much experience of this boat or yacht sailing in general, at the time this seemed to be the obvious thing to do as it gives a clear lead to the car. Yesterday I had a problem when hove to with a backed (and well reefed) genoa. The sheet fouled the guardrail at a stanchion. The stanchions on the boat are very strong so this was no a problem on this occasion. Another thing occured to me when looking at this was if I wanted the genoa car at the for'd end of the track then I would have to re-rig the sheet past a stanchion.
Any advice on this will be much appreciated.

Mine go inside the guard wires, this means the lead is not to good when running free but no appreciable strain on wires or stanchions. The lead is fine when going to windward.

I'd rather be sailing... :-) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Different boat I know, but my genoa track is screwed into the toe-rail so if it passed a stanchion I wouldn't have to re-reeve the sheet. I'm not sure about the problem with the sail backed, it may be one of those things you have to live with; when hove-to then you'd want the sheet hauled in pretty hard anyway. Is it a problem with clew height? Even with a full genoa, backing the sail will blow some of it onto the guardrails, unless it is particularly high at the clew.
