Risk assessment - powerboats and others

Following from an active discussion on another forum, I've just picked up the RYA Risk Assessment form forthe RBPB race.

It has a list of sample sources of risk, and a - regrettably - small example of how to prepare for a problem / mitigate the risk.

As a basis for starting your own RA on a sailing/motorboat activity, it's not a bad start, though Item 24 is the cop-out clause.

Item 24 is not so much a cop out as an encouragement to the boats to think the risk problem out properly and make sure all the angles are in fact covered, after all there may be problems specific to certain boats for example.

The form gives a good start and probably covers the main points.

Just stuck a copy away in my 'Sea Scouts' file. Never know when it may come in handy.

Had to risk assess using an orienteering course in the spring and despite doing it several times we still forgot one or two obvious things.

Still keeps the 'jobs worths' happy!
