one gallon of resin with white pigment added + hardner
one gallon of acetone
6m² 600g woven mat

--- £42 wow!

Resin is now £22 per gallon, that is shocking!

I wouldnt have had the hardner(sic) put in, it will have gone off by the time you use it! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I suppose the price reflects the Hydrocarbon based content. Not much we can do about that, unless you can Google otherwise.

And that's not all the bad news.

History has shown that resins produced during oil shortages (or when over priced) the quality can be suspect as more additives are added to keep the cost down, or more of the base product is obtained by lowering the required standard of purity.

There is a graph showing the years when oil was in short supply, and a graph of Osmosis detected in boats by date of manufacture, almost any boat built around 6 months to a year after a shortage was prone to osmosis.

The original summary was produced by a company that did a lot of osmosis treatments over many years and they produced the original document.

I have been trying to locate it with Google searches and other search engines but no luck, perhaps some forum member can turn up a copy.

Mark 2006 in your diary for boats to be careful about purchasing in the next 7 to 10 years.

Avagoodweekend......

Nah not really, far cheaper than buying at chandlers in teeny quantities. I was just shocked how much resin prices have soared. Last time I bought bulk it came to £50 but that was 3 gallons of resin and a massive amount of csm.

I lost 2 gallons when the barrel allowed rain in, I had put it on the drive (forgot to move it into my shed doh!).

Resin prices are attached to oil, a price rise was added this morning, should have gone yesterday.

Hi Julian.
If you put it in your shed make sure the lids on tight this time and don't let it fall over.
PS I could not resist this one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
