I don't know if I have spelt it correct but what is the present day ruling and interpretation of the 'Traditional Riparian Rights' ?
I know the local council go into a fit whenever I raise the issue with them.
Anybody else made any enquiries lately ???
Cheers !

I am not sure exactly what you are asking but if you google <Riparian Rights > you will find many sites relating to the present day law in the UK.

Could be your council is pi$$ed at having Riparian Responsibilites as well as rights. There are also sites relating to use of inland rivers and streams.

Re: At it\'s most basic

It's the right of the higher landowner to allow run off onto the lower landowner.

It then becomes a little more complicated as to rights relating to any channels, streams etc.

As soon as the council, water board, or lawyers get involved a perfectly simple piece of natural law becomes a big earner for barristers.

Riparian Rights apply to owners of waterfront property and include matters relating to access to the water and riverbed. My neighbour and I own waterside properties within Milford Haven Waterway which is an estuary. We unsuccessfully claimed the riparian right to lay a mooring without charge to the Port Authority and I now have to pay £25 p.a for the privilege.
