This is an update and regret we cannot suggest anything other than to keep yourself safe if you are alone on or near water.

The tragic loss to CDYC recently of our Vice Commodore is still raw for us. Briefly ,Rod Ling was readying his yacht to go to Lydney with a fellow member on the Saturday. He went down to the yacht on Friday, but got a rope caught around his prop while leaving his mooring. We know that he managed to free the rope by cutting the line but what actually occurred afterwards is unclear.

On the Saturday morning the fellow member noted his car parked up but could not raise Rod so he alerted the Coast Guard and Sara rescue team. Rod’s body was found not far from his boat at low water and taken to Beachley Lifeboat station by SARA .
