Maurice Bailey, who with his wife survived 117 Days Adrift ( the title of their book) in a rotting liferaft in the Pacific has died.
It's an inspiring story, they were on their way to NZ to start a new life, but their 9m yacht was sunk by a whale near the Galapagos. They lost 40 kilos, eating what they could catch, but became as one with the sea life and hated the killing especially turtles.
They were rescued by a random fishing boat, close to death but still possessing the will to live.
It is one of the greatest survival stories.

thank you for bringing that to our notice , a story many of would like to read . his wife passed in 2002

His book was one of my childhood tops, along with David Blagden, Alec Rose and Francis Chichester.

Didn't he have a chandlery for secondhand boat bits at Lymington called ' Yot Grot ' ?

An admirable man :encouragement:
