I have just discovered that the chap who died in the Hooligan V incident was a fellow member of Ely Sailing Club.
Jamie Butcher (27) had been a member of the club for 6 years.
He leaned to sail with the club and was a very active member.
He would be on the water as much as he could.
He was very keen to race and would regularly sail one of the club Lasers or the club Enterprise.
He always liked to push as hard as possible.
He would also take his turn manning the rescue boat.
He was happy to crew for those who needed some one to do so and had crewed for me in our Enterprise on a few occasions.
Always good for a laugh and good company.
He had applied to join Hooligan V for a years racing following a advert on the yachts website and had been to an interview in London.
This was his first trip in the yacht.
This is a very sad loss to the club.
I would like to offer my condolences to his parents Julia & Richard.
Jamie - keep the lee rail under where ever you are.
