1.1 Indoor Location for Professional Applications Workshop
Date: 2nd February 2010
Location: National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex
This one-day Workshop will focus on what improvements are required and can
be achieved to help break down the barriers to innovative deployment of
location technology to solve your unmet requirements.

1.2 GPS Jamming & Interference - A Clear and Present Danger
Date: 23 February 2010
Location: National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex
A one-day conference being organised by the Digital Systems KTN, Location &
Timing Programme, in partnership with the Royal Institute of Navigation.
This conference will bring together experts from all aspects of the PNT
community to debate important aspects of GPS vulnerabilities including
intentional and unintentional jamming, natural and man-made interference and
other issues which might impact users and applications which leverage PNT

1.3 6th Arctic Shipping Summit
Date: 26-29 April 2010
Location: Helsinki Paasitorni Congress, Helsinki, Finland
The RIN is a supporting association of Informa Maritime Events¹ Arctic
Shipping 2010 conference which takes place in Helsinki from the 27th to the
29th of April. As a result, RIN members are entitled to 10% off the

1.4 History of Navigation Conference - UPDATE
Date: 6/7 May 2010
Location: National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London SE10
The first Conference organised jointly with the National Maritime Museum
(NMM) will showcase new research in the history of navigation. Make history
with theRIN and NNM! Cost incl. VAT per ticket £20.00. Delegate registration
through the NMM only. Prior booking required. Limited spaces only available
on the tours organised for the morning of 6th before the start of the
conference. Further details including a registration form and programme now

1.5 TOPNAV
North : Sherburn Aero Club: Sat 8 May 2010
South : White Waltham: Sat 15 May 2010
Join in the fun and enter the TopNav challenge, taking place at Sherburn and
White Waltham. Hosted by the Sherburn and West London Aero Clubs, TopNav
provides a challenge to crews irrespective of their navigational experience
and is open to crews of GA aeroplanes, motor gliders, microlights and
helicopters, with the route appropriately adapted. Up to 30 crews at each
location can experience two hours or so of exhilarating flying in pursuit of
good training, trophies and cash prizes.

2. Meetings:
2.1 Joint CILT/RIN Solent Branch meeting: The Army Today - Modern Military
Logistics
Date: 27 January 2010
Location: Lecture Theatre, Southampton Conference Centre, Southampton Solent
University, Sir James Matthew Building, Above Bar, Southampton Joint
meeting, organised by the Hampshire & Dorset Group CILT and the RIN Solent
Branch. Starts 1845 with an evening talk by Brigadier Davis. The talk will
be followed by a question and answer session concluding at 2000. Guests can
then adjourn with light refreshments (payable locally) and informal
networking until 2100. RIN members and their guests are welcome to attend,
as are members of other local organisations. There is no charge to attend
this talk. Prior booking is not required.
2.2 UKGEO Forum annual lecture - NEW.
Date: 28 January 2010
Location: Lecture Hall, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, 12 Great
George Street, Parliament Square, London SW1P 3AD
This evening lecture by the UKGEO Forum, of which the RIN is a member, will
be given by Dr Vanessa Lawrence CB, Director General & Chief Executive of
the Ordnance Survey. The subject of the lecture is 'The Future of Mapping'.
1730 for 1800 start. The lecture is free of charge and open to all RIN
members and their guests. The RICS bar will be open after the lecture. There
is no requirement register in advance.
2.3 GANG Meeting: The Use & Abuse of GPS
Date: 1 February 2010
Location: Cambridge Aero Club, The Airport, Newmarket Road, Cambridge CB5

A series of presentations will be given by John Gentleman, ex Head of CAA
AIS Regulation; David Broughton, former RIN Director, and David Cockburn,
CAA Safety Promotion Officer. The meeting will commence at 1800. All are
welcome and there is no charge. Advance booking required by email to

2.4 Joint RAeS/RIN Boscombe Down Branch Meeting: Virgin Galactic
Date: 9 February 2010
Location: Lecture Theatre, MoD Boscombe Down, Amesbury, Wiltshire
A joint lecture with the RAeS - Virgin Galactic by Will Whitehorn (President
Virgin Galactic). Starts 1715.

2.5 RIN Annual Meeting at Ordnance Survey
Date: 18 February 2010
Location: Ordnance Survey Business Centre, Romsey Road, Maybush, Southampton
This year's talk will be by Co J Kedar, Commander, Joint Aeronautical and
Geospatial Organisation (JAGO) and is entitled 'Geographic operations and
techniques used in support of forces engaged in Afghanistan and other
operational areas of the World'. Meet at 1900 for 1930 start. Refreshments
will be provided. Prior booking will not be required. Members and guests
welcome. There is no charge for this event.
2.6 Scottish Branch Meeting -The Role of the MAIB
Date: 25 February 2010
Location: The Two Bridges Hotel, South Queensferry, Edinburgh
The subject of the talk at this evening meeting, by Bill West, is the role
of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). Meet for a bar supper at
1800 for 1830 with the lecture at 1930. All members and guests welcome. Book
