Having been a mobo man all my life ( so far ) with boats by Owens, Fletcher, Europa, Birchwood, Marine Projects ( before they became Princess ), Sealine and last, but not least my lovely Phantom 40, - sold in March -...... I've gone raggie.

Not a lot to do with the price of diesel, but more to do with having time to spend pootling around. We're moving the new (to me) boat out to the Med in the spring so we have a few months to get used to her before we go. Semi retirement having been a long time coming means that we can live on board for a few weeks at a time before returning to the UK to catch up with work, grandchildren, the garden etc.

Oh yes. The new boat ?

Jeanneau Sun Odessey 45 DS. ( She has got an upgraded bigger engine though. So not yet fully raggie - still some mobo left in me ;) )

Congratulations Peter. More details of the boat are here. That's a very nice one, with the huge full beam aft owners' cabin. I look forward to seeing you around in the Med next year

Reference the cat/monohull thing, it probably makes more sense to have a mono if as you say you plan to return to UK between chunks of time in the Med. It is very hard to park a cat in the Med becuase of the stern-to berthing system which leaves no spare space beam-wise, and the fact that marinas cannot be reconfigured to suit cats because the spaces are generally privately owned

Mmmm, very nice! We were viewing one of those at the Boat Show - lovely boat - will probably be our next upgrade - very envious!

Congratulations, That is a fantastic piece of sailing kit!

The sailing set up is similar to my Bene 43 with Inmast furling and Genoa winches next to the twin Wheels. She will be a pl;easure to sail!

As some one else who swopped motor for sail in the Med I applaud you.....much better at anchor...just takes a long time to get to an anchorage.

Where will she be living in the med, or are you on a voyage of discovery? Love the aft cabin as well looks nice and comfy...

Cheers

Paul

Many congrats on the purchase! Now you have more time, I expect you will enjoy the slower pace of life a raggie bestows. You will also no longer have the hole-in-the-wallet feeling as you approach the fuel berth! :D

Hope to see you around and about before you head South.

Nice one, did the same earlier this year, Prestige 36 to Sun Odyssey 42 DS and loving it.

Me too contemplating the move over to raggie. I've always been a sailor and converted to motorboats whilst kids were young. Now they're old enough to assist and become slaves to a winch.

Interested in the Beneteau Sense 43 as this doesn't heel over quite so much, that'll help persuade SWMBO as she doesn't like being on her ear:eek:

Congratulations, lovely yacht. We sold our Targa earlier this year with the intention of going raggie and very nearly made an offer on a 42DS (great boats). Last minute change of heart has put us on the mobo trail again though. Maybe one day.........
