Hi Guys
Would like sincere and expert ideas from you regarding which type of anchor and correct weight for an 18.5 ft centre console boat. Would anchor mainly in sand. Not sure to go for a 5kg Danforth or a 4Kg Delta. Having different ideas from shop owners :confused::confused: Please help. Appreciate

I have used a 5kg Bruce for many years it has been excellent ideal for sand no parts to trap fingers and always breaks out when required
Boat is 22 ft 1750kg centre console
I normally drop anchor overside from helm and set anchor by hand whilst reversing

Thanks for your help. Should be ok with 4 kg Delta then?

I'm assuming in a boat like that you don't leave the boat anchored unattended or while asleep, needing absolute confidence in it resetting on the turn of the tide? In which case I'd probably go for an appropriate sized Fortress. We carry a baby one on our knockoff Zapcat in case of engine failure (the engine is old and shit :D) and it's always set reliably and held well. It's also light and easy to handle, stays clean rather than going rusty, and is flat which makes it easier to stow (you can even dismantle it into a long narrow bag if necessary, which is what we do on the Zapcatoid).

Nothing wrong with the other suggestions either, though.

We are changing our anchor this year.
The old one is a Delta
The new one is a Rocna

AFAIK, the Delta is a ploughing anchor which means that it never actually (completely) sets - it always continues to "plough".
I've proved to my own satisfaction by diving and swimming in it in the clear waters of the Med.
There is always about 3 to 6 metres of a furrow before the anchor came to a stop.
Further pulling by the boat just moves the anchor and extends the furrow.

I believe that the Rocna (and other similar modern anchors) dig deeper and set quicker.
I will know more later this year when I am in a position to confirm this.

Anchor weight is always important.
I believe that you get more "holding power" from a modern anchor (like the Rocna) for the same weight as a Delta anchor.
I've increased the weight and changed to a Rocna so my case might not be fair to the Delta.

F 7 will be fine I think? Reading many good reviews about them and to be honest im leaning to buy one of them.

A cheap Danforth type will be fine, assuming you mean stopping for lunch etc. There will be a calculation table in the chandlery to work out the right size, and it is easy to stow.
You just need to think about weight/chain etc if you are to pull this up by hand.

yes exactly. Will only use it as you said and will pull by hand. How many Kg would you think would be ideal for an 18.5 ft? Should I check the length or weight of boat approx.? thanks.
