Help please I have a colvicsailer 30 the rigging screws are made of cast and galvanised 400mm long, The rigging wire is 6mm and fittings are s/s. I would like to change the screws as they are very bulky in section, Question Should i live with the cast screws if not can i buy s/s screws 400mm long. or any other sugestions.

I'd be surprised if they really were cast rather than forged. Carbon steel is stronger than stainless but of course there is the problem of rusting. If you have electrical contact between stainless and galvanized the galvanizing will dissolve very quickly so if you stay with the present setup be sure the wire and the bottlescrew are insulated from each other. BTW the best material for the body of a bottlescrew is bronze.

Just checked on the screw forks it is stamped EN5 on one side and 3OF on tuther.

You are right i have just found them on the net they are made from carbon steel and droped forged. The forks of the bottle screw bolt through the s/s eye of the wire end fitting with other end bolted to the s/s deck fitting. how can i inslate.

It sound like she origionally had galvanised wire rigging then the wire got 'modernised' to S/S but the origional bottle swrews wher left leaving you with a mix! There is no good way to make this work, galvanised rigging is good and so is stainless so you either need to go bck to all galvanised or change the bottle screws. Take a good look at the age/condition of all of the rig plus the loading (pretty low on a colvic?) and decide which way you want to go

Thank you for your comments, All the s/s wire and fitting look very good. If i changed i would go for the new s/s bottle screws but the drop forged ones are 400mm long. what size bottle screws would i need as i cant find s/s that size. If i use a smaller lenght b/screw i will have to extend the rigging wire lenght if i do, Can i re-use the s/s wire swageless fittings
