Rigging Wire Cutters Focus DIY

Bought some 18" Bolt Croppers from Focus DIY for £8.99 this week.

I know they are bolt croppers but went through 5mm rigging wire as clean as a whistle. I also have 6mm wire which I expect they will also handle well as it took so little effort.

Like many of us, should prepare for the worst, but always baulked at the price of proper cutters. I have tried the red handled croppers in cheap shops but all they seem to do is bend the wire.

Thanks for the tip Alec. I've been making up rigging recently trying to cut galvanised wire with a hacksaw.

Before you store then on your boat grease then very well and wrap it in cling film to prevent it rusting solid in the sea water enviroment

Thanks Alec, bought mine this morning. Nearly lost my mast early in August and had been wondering what to do about the problem of cutting rigging but still being able to sail on a budget.
