The rigger who is putting new standing rigging on my boat sent the following in a text message

"I set you rigging for cursing in all weather condition."

How does the panel think I should reply?

"Can you give a warranty with that? I ask because some of my language is pretty awful above a F6"

I think we need a bit more of a clue? Is it a sailing or an english spelling test?

What is the boat and how is its standing rig configured? Is any of it adjustable or is it fixed? What sort of sailing do you do? Why did you have the rigging changed? What are the sails and in what condition?

If he means that he has set the rigging to maximum tension, and you are going to lay the boat up over winter, it might be best to slacken it off a bit. All mine has been slackened one turn of the rigging screws for the winter.

So far I make that exactly 50:50 between those that got the joke and those over whose head it zipped!

just to add to the fun that spell check and predictive text can generate, I had an old Amstrad Word Processor which always tried to replace Bristol in an address with Bristols......that's how it came - niot what i taught it - honest!

I got the joke alright, but still think that if the rig has been set up tight enough for all weather sailing, it might do better reduced a bit for the winter layup. In fact my own slacking off was a bit more scientific than I let on because I have one of your Loos rig tension gauges, so I wrote a list of all the tensions, then slacked them off and re-measured, leaving them at about 75-80% of full sailing tension.
