Mast is off boat for various jobs is it worth wire brushing the screws and should I lubricate them, if yes use what, grease,lanolin or just a hint of oil.

Mine get cleaned with brake cleaner and the threads get a dab of copper slip before setting up the rigging, any excess wiped off.

If you do wire brush than you must make 100% sure that there are no particles left in the thread; brake cleaner will flush them away.
No grease: it acts as a magnet for grit and rust.

Several ways to do this.
I unscrew the rigging screws one by one
, degrease the barrel threads in solvent, clean the spigot threads with an old toothbrush and solvent, dry all the parts, apply rigging screw oil and reassemble, tightening up to the marks already made on the threads with tape. Insert new split pins
