Hello
New to me boat with the mast off and due to be re-stepped on July 2nd.One of the six shroud fittings on deck is missing
the nut pictured. Can't see the engineering value of the nut except as an end stop for the bottle screw.Fortunately years
of no cleaning have left a witness for where the bottle screw should stop but it seems a good idea to have a nut if all the other fittings have one.14mm between the flats.8mm depth.Six sides.Approximately seven or eight threads.Seems to be a left hand thread because removing from the deck fitting needs it to be turned clockwise Thanks in advance.

14mm across the flats does not equate exactly with any standard thread size.

The nearest is 3/8 UNF which is 14.29mm or 9/16" AF

next nearest are 1/4 W; 5/16 BSF which is 13.34mm AF and 5/16 W; 3/8 BSF which is 15.24 mm AF

Id go with 3/8" UNF which is 24 tpi and therefore matches your 7 or 8 threads in 8mm. Measure the OD of the thread. if it is 3/8" then it also agrees with that. Also try a 9/16" AF spanner

The LH thread will be the problem ....... last time I needed a LH nut my father made one for me!

Its engineering value is as a locking nut!

You can always step the mast as scheduled and add this nut later.

A rigger will probably be able to supply but you will find sources with Google.

Yes the nut is for locking the barrel of the rigging screw AKA a bottle screw or turn screw. You can use lock wire to lock the barrel from turning in lieu of a nut. If you can cope with the asymmetry of the missing nut. Failing that I think you might need to buy a new rigging screw with a LH nut on it. Well maybe you can find a new nut. good luck olewill

.... https://marinestore.co.uk/Left_Hand_Lock_Nut___UNF_3_8_inch.html ......... £1.24

There is a good range of other sizes/ threads and other small parts you may loose on the same site
