I saw it for the first time on youtube.I think there is room for a remake the whole boat bit especially the interiors is all too clean and the charachters look like they have had a shower in the last week, totally unrealistic!

+1. Personally I'd love to see a remake as a drama serial, giving time for character and plot development. If I have a huge lottery win, I'd even make it myself. Fwiw, I only really like the opening credits ad the row to Memmert in the movie.

Does anyone know what's become of the Dulcibella made for the movie?

Yes would definatly stand being serialised with time for the other minor charachters. They could get Colin Firth and Jeniffer Elhe back together.........errr and more sex and some sailing shots like in Master and Commander..

a tardis interior :D

Correct. The boat used in the filming was up for sale soon after they'd finished and we happened to be in the berth next to it in Lymington. The exterior, deck etc was superb and looked wonderful, but below there was nothing except a massive Mercedes engine. I don't even remember any floorboards.

I cannot tell you what happened to the replica.
The original ended up in Ireland.
I remember seeing a photograph of it in black and white ( without the mast) being craned.
From memory, circa 1976 - 78.

Asgard was Childers boat. The Riddle was screened on the aniversary of his hanging in 1929. Enjoyed his biography, a real 20th century buccaneer.

The boat Asgard is in the care of the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. Erskine Childers was shot rather than hanged in November 1922. His son also named Erskine, went on to be elected President of the Irish Republic.
