Many of you will have witnessed the formation of the RICC here in the PBO Reader to Reader Forum. Admiral jwaldin has accepted my self nomination as Virtual Sailing Secretary and proposal of a Virtual Christmas Cruise.

I am posting here as this is entirely impractical (and therefore not relevant to the PBO forum) and concerns cruising which is one of the weighty matters widely discussed in this forum.

The purpose of this posting is to seek input on possible ports of call - virtually anywhere is possible. Once we have some suggestions we can progress to preparing a passage plan that is only limited by our imaginations.

None of this winter weather and/or reality need to enter into it.

Of course, as with all RICC Virtual Cruises, I can guarantee that the weather will be fine and sunny with fair breezes for the duration... unless the members would like a small gale/storm/hurricane whipped up.

My suggestion for Christmas Day itself is that we anchor in a quiet bay in the Sea of Tranquillity and feast on the sacrificial turkeys that roam there - these remarkable birds come ready stuffed with jackets of crispy bacon and chipolata sausage necklaces.

All those interested in this cruise should step forward along with suggestions of possible ports of call.

Happy virtual cruising...

Ed

PS - Those wanting them will need to bring their own Brussel Sprouts...

It may just be the beer talking (had a few earlier), but would there not be interest in taking part in a "real" X-Mas sail?

Surely I'm not the only one looking for an escape from the annual family torture?

As I said, had a few. Now back to the studio.

Xmas cruise ....

Having staggered off into the mists of the Solent waters some years ago for a xmas jaunt ........ along with 2 other guys who were fed-up with usual party hats and 'good-cheer' ..... we had a bloody marvelous time ........ the pictures of us coming back and tieing up - show just how hard it was !!! OK we were not brave enough to actually NOT be there on 25th ..... but we were as close as you could get without Family War breaking out !!!!

Re: Xmas cruise ....

We did the sailing on Christmas Day the other year - was a wonderful day. Can't see it happening this year /forums/images/icons/frown.gif.

i have rushed off and bought (well, pretty much, virtually) a rather nice boat for the very purpose of joining your cruise. It's very whiz, doncha think? owing to large qty of loot i am now virtually skint, so will be anchoring to save a bit of loot.

As Official Virtual Caterers appointed by the Commode jwaldin, we will be glad to consider providing anything providing it revolves around Festive Turkey and Christmas Pud Vindaloo Curry.
In fact I have me cohorts and minions round to test the recipe this very evening. Washed down with great draughts of fresh ale from Ridleys, should be a real winner of an evening.
My chum Pete and I went from Ramsgate off to live in St Catherines Dock from Boxing Day to New Years Eve on his Trapper 300. Bloody great! How else can you stay in Central London for a tenner for 2 per night?

!URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE COMMODER!
I am pleased with the progress each of you have made in your appointments.
However it would be most inappropriate to consider a cruise at this time without first settling the issue of our official burgee.
We have only days to come up with the design so let's get stuck in!
I have been asked by some members if Uranus looks interesting as one possible spot to stay over on the Christmas cruise. I have never been there but I've heard some interesting things about it from those that have. It sounds most acceptable.
I'll need to start seeing your burgee designs soon.

Re: Burgee designs

I like the ring of flames. Can someone using their software take just the ring and insert the letters 'RICC' in the middle?

Could you please be very careful not to let the mobos hear about it, otherwise the virtual turkey will end up on the virtual cabin sole as a result of their virtual wake.
