Ribrides in trouble

Anybody who hospitalized a customer would surely be subjected to some sort of enquiry and discipline from the authorities that licence these rides. The only freak waves on the Menai last night were probably generated by rib wakes!

The article doesn't the proprietor does!

Even if it was a charitable ride but you still have a duty of care towards your non paying guests. I suspect that someone is going to get a ticking off from the MCA.

There was no way there were any "freak waves" on the straits on Sunday afternoon/ evening between Bangor and Caernarfon.

The only waves I saw were from the visitors on the Balmoral as she gracefully passed me on her way from Menai Bridge to Caernarfon.

so, you are blaming them.....casting doubt on their procedures and account of what happened.

I suppose the adverse publicity won't harm other rib ride businesses in the area.

Care to share your interest or exactly what axe it is you have to grind?

My interest is as a N.Wales boater (ex private rib owner) on the Menai on that evening.

NW boaters tend to use MOBO as an informal means of communication. (My humble apologies for this!)

You will see from my tag line that I am moored midway on the route from Menai Bridge to Caernarfon.

I was out on the strait most of that day and the only time I observed conditions that might be described to a reporter as" freak "were at Puffin Sound.
A properly conducted commercial rib would handle these conditions with ease and without causing two POBs

Conditions between Menai Bridge and Caernarfon were benign in comparison.

I woke up on Monday morning to see the article in the local Daily Post (lousy reporting IMHO)and thought to bring it to the attention of our friends on YBW based in the North Wales.

I have no axe to grind nor commented on the operating procedures of Ribride other than their trying to describe their rides as non commercial!

I surmised that a MAIB report would be likely to trouble them and suspect that this remains the case.

Perhaps people have short memories but Plas Menai had a similar incident in 2009.....

But this was on Caernarfon Bar in Category D waters with a much smaller rib being driven by an inexperienced helm!

I have had some interesting PMs on the matter. The operator must involve MAIB. I say no more.

Does anyone else find this sort of thing irritating on a public forum. It is ... public.

If you want to "say no more" then surely don't bother to say anything in the first place. The "say no more" is simply innuendo for I know more than you and I want to imply something about someone else.

If someone feels that strongly then call the MAIB and be done with it. Tittle Tattle on the forum is best left to the lounge!

Depends on how you care to read "say no more". It could mean as you suggest, or it could mean "my point made".
