I thought I'd share my very recent eye opening RIB-experience with you.

Before now, I've never been on a RIB and therefore haven't really understood what all the fuss is about.

However, last weekend we had a reunion with my friends (it's now 20 years from our military service, I'm old…) and one of the guys had arranged a RIB for us.

We left from Suomenlinna, drove around a small island at 40+ knots and I found myself grinning like a fool. I couldn't even stop grinning after a mouthful when we hit the first 6 foot waves outside. As it was a bit bumpy, we had to sort of half stand to absorb the waves as the boat was airborne several times, but boy was it fun even being a 'tourist'!

I must say I now completely see the lure of these things.

thats not just another Rib
very impressive toy,
do they use it only for joy riding or also for other applications; diving, rescue, .. ?

what are the white things on the rear of the backseat ?
fuel pre filters ? why 3 ?

thanks for posting

Praps it needs three of them to keep up with the fuel flow rate when the twins are at full chat.;):D

If I had a pound for everytime I was asked if I am a drug dealer/runner I would be able to fill this thing up! haha

AFAIK, they mostly just do safaris although the boats are build to military standards -> http://www.ribit.fi/en/ribit-fi-yrityksenae/

They used to have a triple 2-stroke installation on that boat so maybe the third filter is a left-over

What Kwaka, very modestly, isn't telling you is that he offers Rib rides on the amazingly scenic & fairly sheltered Menai Straits, including the infamous & turbulent Swellies. His boats are slightly smaller for bespoke groups, but still carry silly big engines.

Check out his link if you fancy a bit of excitement in the N Wales area.

Thank's Searush, I was aware of his involvement in this area. Those comments of mine would make a good quote to his website :)

That looks very beautiful, if challenging area for cruising, btw. I've read many stories about the tides, etc. Would love to go there some day.

Show us your RIB thread?

Twin 300's....ye hah!!

This could develop into a "show us your RIB" thread.
This is Kestrel.
It's a 150hp Mercury Optimax on the back, good for 46knts!!:D
Or will get you through whatever sea state you care to throw at her.

Probably my proudest moment in her was rescuing a jet skier in 3mtr breaking waves...he was wearing a very small bouyancy aid that wasn't working very well, I'm not sure he would have come out the other side ok:mad:
After we'd finished hauling him out of the sea, we were standing in seawater up to our knees! Kestrel took it all in her stride.

RIB's definitely are fun!!

It's not as much fun in a hail storm

What Philiz is on about is---
'Pan Pan Pan Pan Phil
Can yer gets the 650 hard boat out, I think I got sumatt up wiv me prop like'
Approaching the Swellies and deffo had clutch slip!;)
Passengers on an all
Phill came out on 'Rescue' but not needed
Twas only some weed an rubbish on the whisk
Anyway
Phill an co went for a jolly, we pushed on back to the berth
Then the Golfballs from Hades arrived!!!
I was ok- behind the decent size screen on me Aircraft, 'Fladen' hood surroundin me bonce an some MX Goggles on:)
Passengers had rather rosy cheeks by the time we got to Dinorwic Marina
Snarf Snarf:)
But Phil an crew were further away
Had a text from Phill later
'That was Fun'!
I detected the Irony in the message:rolleyes:
Cripes , it took me back to me early motorcicle days, with me back to front cap on and Stadium (like biggles) Mk 8 goggles:D

Would love to go there some day.

There is a thought!

I'd need to work on your village name though.

If you come here, there are many nice places to explore. Places like Vänkäläisenselkä and Särkilahdenselkä and if you're lucky, you may even spot a punavatsasuomuhäntäorava :D

That's quite a feat! It's not an easy task to drag an exhausted person out of the water in those conditions. Respect!

And a very nice RIB too!
