Advice please.
Has anyone got any experience of using Rhyl Harbour and can comment on how it worked out? Also, are the moorings maintained by the Harbour Authority or is this down to the boat owner using the mooring?
We have tried to sell our Jag 25 with no luck and are considering moving it from Langstone Harbour to somewhere nearer to Liverpool.

Rhyl may be closer to Liverpool but your sailing trips will be more limited than if you were based at Conwy or the Menai.

I thought that Rhyl and Conwy were both about 3 hours each side of HW. If I was prepared to go to Menai I would go a little further and use Holyhead with all states of tide access to moorings.

I wintered in the boat yard there. If you were thinking of lifting out to sell, the yard is kept very clean and the staff there are very helpful and efficient and the security was very good.

No, if we moved it it would be to use being closer to Liverpool, where I live.

Our assumption is that when selling a boat, somewhere on the Solent would be ideal. Doesn't look that way given we paid nearly £8000 for her and have asked (in stages) £7999 then £5999 and finally £4999. Recently here someone pointed out the difficulty with regard to selling 25 footers. Seems to be true.

Apologies for the possibly daft question are you bilge keel or fin?I used to own a Jaguar 23 and am looking at going down from my present 36ft larger boat to something smaller on the River Douglas(Ribble) or Glasson Sailing Club or thereabouts.

Hi, it is a bilge keel. You will find Kittiwake advertised on Apollo Duck, Boats and Outboards, Preloved, Gumtree and Boatshop24. We did have a buyer on eBay but having won the auction, he wanted to view to see if he wanted to buy!

I am assuming yours is a bilge or lift keel version? I don't know if you have tried Blundellsands or Dee SC both much closer to home! I don't know about availability for either just a suggestion.
Best of luck selling your 25 footer. We sold our 24foot trailer sailer two years ago for a similar price to your original asking price but with a trailer. Similar boats are selling for less than half that now. Your main advantage is being able to take the ground on mud berths. This wont attract the floating french caravan buyers who want to be in a marina. It will probably attract anyone wanting to down size and reduce costs so target market would be either older retired people or a young family wanting to get started very cheaply. Lots of boats around at that price point unfortunately further depressing the market. Just look at E-bay any week and you can have your pick at virtually no capital cost to get started. Our marina and many others are on there clearing out old boats that have been abandoned by their owners seeking to recover at least some of the owed storage fees. Some owners and/or their heirs have a totally distorted view of what their boats are worth but eventually either abandon them or sell at a much reduced price to expectations.

Our marina has been offering full access tidal moorings with over winter onshore lift out and in plus storage with a launch service in normal daylight hours for £1500 pa. Very popular with big boats but not so popular with 25 footers!

I did consider Blundellsands and Dee SC a couple of years ago when I wanted to move from Liverpool Marina (expensive, poor facilities and you get fed up sailing up to Garston and back!). However, you need a trailer or a yard trolley for both (Dee SC said they could rock Kittiwake on an off their trailer but I didn't like the thought of that and possible damage to the keel mountings). I have considered Windermere but total cost of move and purchase of trailer would be too expensive. So, better to sell and then buy a 17 to 19 footer trailer sailer that I can handle by myself (launching, recovery and sailing).

Hello saw your advert on Apolloduck and can sympathise with you about timewasters.I have my Oceanis 36CC Mallorca share on Ebay BoatsandOutboards and Yachtfractions. Lots of tyre-kickers but no sale.Am in the doghouse at the moment with SWMBO after a trip cut short to Arenal. Your Jaguar 25 looks like it might fit the bill on the nearby to me River Douglas(Ribble). Not planning on sailing it much just need somewhere to go and potter, out from under SWMBO feet.Maybe we could do a swap if you would prefer sailing in the sunshine instead of the rain. Will be in touch if the latest potential timewaster turns ups and buys.Good Luck either way!

I lifted out at Rhyl yesterday (36' fin keel) for antifouling. Very well run and secure yard, moorings are owned by the council. I entered the river at HW-2 with 2m draft so not very different to Conwy which has silted badly since I was last there 10 years ago.

I kept a 21' Sun 2000 at Dee Sailing Club and witnessed the launching/ recovery techniques there many times. Not as brutal as it sounds. West Kirby SC will crane out non-members boats though you have to be a member to use the yard. I have an unused mooring at Dee if you change your mind.

Thanks for the offer but the preferred strategy is to sell the Jag25 and get a smaller trailer sailer on Windermere. No worry about tides and so can sail at any time.
