Iv tried google and maplins to source an old fashion type of rotary rheostat switch .The original one fitted in the engine control panel for dimming the instruments lights has given up the ghost. Can get a surface mounted switch but they are too bulky .
Anyone got any ideas of a source ?

regards .

Clyst,

I think rheostats are for AC, I assume you wish to dim 12v DC lamps.

What power are the instrument lamps you wish to dim ?

You probably need to look for wire wound potentiometers with switch.

Work out what power capability you need the pot' to cope with and google for (for example) 10watt wire wound potentiometer with switch.

Similar to his spec. perhaps.

Try CPC or RS Components if Maplin cannot help.
