revitalising dull varnish

I read in one of the mags a homebrew concoction containing, I think, meths and linseed oil which (after shaking the bottle) could be rubbed over varnish to give a short term 'lift' ' to the shine. Can anyone remember the exact 'recipe' and has anyone used it?? Ginwoodf.

50% Linseed Oil

25% Turpentine

25% Alcohol

Apply with rag and then lightly buff.

Meths should substitute for alcohol.
Glenmorangie won't do.

Try a sample first as some varnishes won't respond to this.

I've found that the boiled linseed + turps + meths mixture works fine, plus you could also add some vinegar as well. This should lift the muck and brighten up the surface. Don't put any garlic in though.
