I have fitted a new Morse gear selector cable as the old one was very worn and reverse gear was not engaging.
The cockpit control levers are MJB type - separate lever and cable for gear selection and throttle.

Forward and neutral engage without any problems, however reverse does not engage.

When disconnected from the gear selector on the engine, the cable operates smoothly in forward, neutral, reverse.

The gear selector on the engine can be moved to reverse position by hand.

However, when the two are connected there is enormous resistance at the cockpit lever which is preventing reverse gear from engaging.

Has anyone any thoughts on this?

Many thanks

It is difficult to write something sensible without seeing. I suggest you try the following: disengage the cable at the transmission side and have someone act on the cockpit lever while you watch the movement of the cable end at the transmission side. Is the displacement of the cable end compatible with displacement expected by the small lever on the transmission? If not (I hope so...) fix accordingly.
