Rev counter not working???

My flybridge starboard rev counter works for about 5 mins then gives up, but the lower helm one works perfectly, any ideas please????

FWIW when I bought my boat it had one rev counter that would only work intermittently, it turned out that when a previous owner had fitted a chartplotter he had moved the depthsounder to get it to fit, in doing so he had chosen a poor earth for the depth sounder and this would bring on warning lights dimly and stopped the tacho working properly (i assume by interference from the depth pulses). I only worked this out recently as I'm in process of doing a rewire and making a new dashboard. It hadn't been working properly for at least 10 years before I bought her.

thanks, but for the last 4 years it has woked perfectly only just happen recently.
