Reuse of Sta-Lok Terminals Part II

Easy Peasy! Except that the original and the replacement were "Norseman" not "Sta-Lok" (difference is "Sta-Lok" have an extra former); I haven't managed to get the wire end out of the old terminal yet so replaced the whole thing. Left it tensioned to 15% of UTS so we'll see if it's still attached tomorrow.
My cable cutters, 14" parallel action, cut through the wire easily so at least if the lot falls down I am confident I can clear the mess away.

I would like to read original part 1. I had a Norseman swaged fitting fail on my boat, and replaced it with a Sta-lok. Examination reveals teh Sta-Lok to be a superior bit of engineering - only trouble, all my other stays are Norseman /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I like sta-locks damn good bit of kit! I cut my wire with a rotazip, like a small disc grinder, but bigger than a dremel, cleaner, quicker.

Once I have the wire and cone out of the old fitting it will be available for reuse but it seemed prudent when procuring the cone to also procure a new fitting. Actually attaching the thing was the easy, peasy part - I used the instructions from the web.

As you will know by now you can re-use your Stalok and the former but the cone MUST be replaced.

To move the terminal back up the wire to get at the old cone just screw the lower part of the terminal back on just a couple of threads or so, grip the top part tightly but do not grip the wire itself at all- it must be able to move.

Then whack the lower part of the terminal with a heavy hammer a few times and the seal will be broken. Dismantle the two parts and the upper section should then slide up the wire and enable you to unwrap the filaments to get at the cone

This is the method in my manual for dismantling my recently installed Furlex from the forestay and it worked without a hitch
