Hi
just bought a 26ft Buckingham cruiser to sail on the canals, returning to my love of boats after 20 years, worked abroad for a few years.
Any info/photos of interior/exterior of a buckingham would be helpful.
When is someone going to bring out a magazine out just for the working class mans motor boat/cruiser,not all of us can afford £10,000 and upwards for our boats.
Most magazines are filled with Narrow boats/expensive boat articles,I do honestly feel there is an opening in the magazine market for the "Average Boater".
Look forward to reading more threads on this good site.
Ric

You're the second new Buckingham owner in a week. At this rate we'll get our own forum on Boatone's site despite his disparaging remarks. /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Anyway, I have a Buckingham 25 as well which I found in a field last year. I do have some interior pics if you want to pm me with your e-mail. There is another member, gjh, who has a Buckingham 20 up near you.

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

I totally agree with you about a magazine for hands on boating. Having had 4 boats in 25 years, all of them needing various amounts of mechanical/cosmetic work. A magazine based on Practical Classics for cars would be something I would buy regulally, all of the people who contrubute are doing their own projects up making it interesting and informative . Every month I pick up MBM/ MBY and find 85% of whats in them is either adverts for ridiculasly priced yachts or tests on them but very little practical advice or articals on renovation or the like. When I semi-retire I would love to have a go at something like that I think it would go be a success. What does any one else think?

I would appreciate a mag on buying and doing up boats for under £10,000 as I don't have an awful lot of money.
I am struggling to find something that I can afford.

you can make a start here. Go to the home page http://www.ybw.com

Go to brokerage boats for sale. Select power, United Kingdom, currency £and enter 10 to 10,000. There's about 125 boats listed

Welcome Ric,

A very good point, and even if your budget is much higher than £10K, the same issues and needs arise. How many people for example are running 25 year old Brooms, 20 year old Princesses, Fairlines etc., all of which require constant upgrades and maintenance.

I did try PBO for a month or two, but it's so Raggie flavoured that the value to Stinkpots is minimal. 'BoatMart' perhaps comes closest, but its editorial content is quicker to read and less informative than a couple of hours on this forum.

MBM does try, but also tries to be a jack-of-all-trades, so the practical articles are too few. Perhaps there is need to offer some constructive criticism regarding the overlap of MBM and MBY, and I may make this the subject of a new post.
