Not Mr Noah's boat. If you look at the properties of the photo, it appears as if the boat was owned by a small bloke called Mallard.

The boat looks similar to one called "Mary Gloag" which I sailed back in the mid 60's. She was designed and built in Scotland for a lawyer. Last seen in Weymouth.

No clue as the geography though.

Thanks folks - they're all excellent suggestions, but, in truth, I really don't know where it is, other than the west of Scotland. Which was why I was asking. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The lumpy hill at the back looks to me somewhere like Argyll, perhaps between Knapdale and Loch Long/Goil, Cowal/Kyles of Bute sort of area. But then Knoydart/Loch Hourn was mentioned. Loch Nevis, Moidart...... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I'm sure Aja will know.

Upper Loch Torridon - the narrow channel through from Loch Shieldaig showing just ahead of the bow, and the beautiful anchorage off Alligin Shuas would be directly astern.

[/ QUOTE ]The boat is "Mallard", sailed by Jean and David Weston who were friends of relatives of mine. I guess that the photograph dates from the 50s.

The picture was scanned in from quite a small print, so the scratches and blemishes are more pronounced.

The caption says Loch Long in Invernessshire, but I wonder if it's the "other" Loch Long where, as you say, it meets Loch Goil.
