I would not normally aprove of wheel steering in anything less than 35ft but this project we are THINKING of taking on would really suit a small wooden wheel on the bulkhead. How easy is a system to fit?

First thought is, whatever the boat, don,t do it. I bought the present, Nic 32 MkX1 with wheel steering, wish it was tiller for a variety of reasons, but mainly simplicity. Be interested to hear what you do, and why.

Please can you expand on why you don't want wheel steering? I'm currently looking at two boats that have had steering wheels added to the cockpit and I'm unsure about the practicalities of it.

Basicly, I would prefer a simple steering system, for instance I think a wheel on a 33ftr like my Nic is an unneccesary complication. Takes up a lot of room in the cockpit, requires a much more expensive auto pilot system, you are much more exposed when hand steering I would go for a tiller when ever possible. On my last 44ft centre cockpit there was no choice.
