A while ago I was reading (probably on here) about someone losing their anchor. And I wondered how I would retrieve my anchor if I lost it. Grappling hook? Diving? So I thought outside of the box and bought one of these

About €34 . It arrived today so I tested it on my spare anchor in the garage. I honestly think I could retrieve my anchor if I lost it down the Mariana Trench!
What do the panel think?

Think that would work quite well in some situations but would have to land the magnet right on the anchor and in the right orientation. Most of the time when one needs help to retrieve and anchor it's one of two reasons; the anchor is jammed in or under something like a rock or log or the anchor has detached from the boat in some way.

In the first case to unjam the anchor you need to pull it out backwards so must somehow get the magnet to attach only to the back end of the anchor which seems problematic. In this situation the best strategy has been to drop a loop of line or a large ring over the anchor rode, take the dink out past the anchor allowing the loop or ring to drop down the rode until it slips down the shank and pull the anchor out backwards.

In the later case, if the anchor is lost from the boat but the approximate location known then the magnet might be very useful for randomly dragging about the area. However if the rode is still on the anchor having lost the rode attachment to the boat vs the anchor alone coming loose from the rode, it seems like it would be easier to use a grapnel to drag for the rode as a much larger target than just the anchor.

On the other hand, who knows what amazing things one might bring up with a giant magnet.

When I tested it on my 20kg Delta in the garage, I was glad I didn’t get my hand in between the anchor and magnet. To get it off I had to slide it to the edge of the shank. Wasn’t easy??‍♀️⚓️?

If it is capable of lifting 800kg, what happens if it attaches itself to some immovable object such as a wreck or a sewer pipe?

Is Bouba strong enough to pull it free? :D
Or the floor of the delivery van? Surely you'd end up with a van covered with bikes? Not found the answer to this yet, unless it's a keep.

I also had visions of my parcel stuck to the side of the postman’s van??‍♂️ but it came well wrapped in thick foam

Can you help find my stainless anchor . Pls
No I can’t! You rich guys with your non magnetic anchors can afford divers (p.s. don’t forget when you are in Nice, to visit Antibes to see how some of the forumites live????)
