Fitted one of these filters this weekend and thought a report here might be useful to others.
The unit was very simple to fit, although the elbow pieces that are supplied were too large to fit into my 10mm (?) plastic water pipes. Moment of panic, as I had already cut the cold supply pipe and we’re on a swinging mooring! :ambivalence:
However, a few minutes’ work with a piece of emery paper on the end of the elbow pieces solved the problem and they fitted into place snugly and jubilee clamped.
Screwed the filter canister into position and turned on the water pump. Nothing came through. Now is the time to realise that it’s a one-way system and that I’d connected the pipes to the filter unit the wrong way around. Quick swap of pipes and all good. The galley and heads cold supply is now filtered.
I have to say that the quality of the filtered water is a revelation. It tastes wonderful. There is absolutely no taint. We have always, previously, had teabags “fizzing” when brewing up, probably due to the chlorine treatment in the water tanks, but this has been eliminated completely. It must be said that the flow rate on the cold taps has been slowed somewhat, but it’s still useable and the trade-off in having clean, really tasty water is very worthwhile.
No photos, as that might be a bit too nerdy, but I hope our experience might be useful to others who might be considering fitting one of these units.
