Hey all,

Did some speed testing in my boat last week. It has just been lifted, polished, anti fouled and was running light on fuel, about 10%. 30% water.

One thing though... there is a vibration on the port side when banking left so this may slightly reduce performance. My mechanic checked for play in the cutless bearing and said they seem fine.

props look ok, possibly rudder? Anyway here are the figures I got with a pretty smooth sea F3 on the stern

900 rpm - 29 l/h 9.3 knots ( would give a range of 890 miles... that I like! lol) About 3.1 litres per mile

1200 rpm - 69 l/h - 11.8 knots

1500 rpm - 111 l/h - 16.1 knots

1800 rpm - 212 l/h - 25 knots

1900 rpm - 180 l/h - 23.2 knots ( 7.75 liters per mile, prob the best fast cruising speed )

2000 rpm - 212 l/h - 25 knots

2100 rpm - 245 l/h - 26.8 knots

2200 rpm - 268 l/h - 28.1 knots (9.5 liters per mile - thirsty!)

I'll be opening a new thread soon - Im planning to leave end of May sailing from Ireland to Mallorca. Should be a fun trip :-)

Already stocking up on the wine and beer plus naturally Jack Daniel's :-)

BTW - I have shipped the boat to the Med and back from the Med. Im choosing to do it on its own bottom this time as its something I've always dreamed off... esp that nice big open Biscay patch of water... mmmmm

Yoh boatlover.
When we went to Portpatrick at 1900 rpm She was doing roughly 17/18kts
Dam good improvement there it seems:)
Can't see a rudder prob ref the vibes though:confused:
Is She ok when throttling up 'straight ahead' now?

Great stuff. But why do you go slower at 1,900 than 1,800 rpm?

Well spotted! Methinks the figures for 1800rpm are a typo but otherwise the figures seem plausible. 0.54mpg @ 25kts @ 2000rpm seems about right
