We are looking to buy a 10-12 year old boat (Fairline Phantom). Inevitably at this age most of the available boats have some dinks or scratches on the woodwork which, ideally, we'd like to restore if possible.

This mostly affects cabinet doors which, fortunately, can be removed. Is it possible to restore these to somewhere near "as new" condition? If so, how and any idea of cost?

Hi Eugene,
It's fairly easy to do with a little practice.
The ones in your pictures seem to be gouges, they have gone into the finish further than just the lacquer and will require filling with colour matching wax sticks.
Liberon are the best, this will improve them considerably.
To make them completely invisible you will have to paint on a continuation of the grain.

Sometimes with dents (if the wood has not broken) you can steam the dent and raise it to the surrounding area, you then just need to stain and refinsh.
There are some good videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8b9czvYXoQ

Hope you find a suitable Phantom soon.
