Restart Sailing — Scottish Government Dialogue

The first link above is to an organisation gathering information to restart sailing safely when appropriate. The subject has been gathering a head of steam in forums such as YBW with both sides of the discussion clearly represented.

Also organisations like the RYA representation and now the Scottish Government asking for comments on restarting sailing (as well as other sports), I thought these links would be of interest.

Interestingly there has been a study ( see first link) by some Italian outfit that claims to demonstrate almost no risk in the context of the virus spreading due to restart of sailing.

Just posted for information and of course feel free to comment, or not. I am not a representative of, or registered with restartsailing or on their Facebook page.

Thanks for posting that. It's good that the Scottish Government is actively studying the pros and cons. I have responded.

Thanks. It's a no-brainer. Don't open up the bar, don't use the sweaty changing rooms and showers, don't mix and match your crews. Big boat crews may be out. Otherwise, go sailing.

I strongly recommend we find common cause (rather than resorting to "what about") with fishermen, climbers, walkers, canoeists, divers, golfers and the rest who are all in the same "boat". None of these activities poses meaningful risk.

Folks can post their opinion in support or rejection of return to sailing. As far as I am concerned the conversation should be started so that when the time is right, sailing will be allowed. For example, without opinion being expressed, other sports could be prioritised based on their lobbying in the case of a staged relaxation. Some people have expressed opinion elsewhere as if it is demand to start sailing now; it is a consultation thing, thats all.

I have discovered from an analysis on this site that it is number of comments that count rather than the number of votes which I find strange. So I urge everyone to leave comments as well as vote to push us up the list.

You won't be surprised to hear that golf is currently at the top. Lots of dad's looking for an escape I expect!
