Has anyone visited Respond Bay, just to the East of Cape Wrath, this year?
The only information I can find suggest that it’s a good anchorage, but full of moorings and that it’s difficult to find room to anchor.
Any practical experience of anchoring there would be very useful; I’m currently waiting on weather in Kinlochbervie, hoping to round Cape Wrath on as soon as the weather improves. I’m trying to decide if it is a viable place to spend the night at anchor, rather than having to sail up Loch Eriboll to one of the anchorages I’ve used before.

Rispond Bay

I was there two nights ago arriving and leaving in darkness and rain. I wasn't able to go in as far as I wished because of the sudden appearance of buoys. The bay is very small. Where I was I would not describe the shelter as "perfect" (as do CCC) and there was a bit of chop coming in all night with lightish variable winds.

My view was limited but the moorings were in such a regular pattern that I wondered if it was fish farm clutter.

Thanks kalanka, I skipped Respond Bay and sailed on to Tilmine Bay (rounded Cape Wrath on the 25th September from Kinlochbervie), anchored close in not far from the pier. The wind was in the south so the shelter was reasonable, I think it would be quit exposed from the north. There are several mooring in the bay, for creel boats, but plenty of room to anchor.
I'll probabaly have another look at Respond Bay next year, when there is more day light to explore.

Would that be Talmine? We spent the night there in 2006. Very good food in the pub which was a bit of a walk on the south side of the village. There seemed to be bays suitable for anchoring a bit nearer to it, but we didn't try them. With a bit of spare time, a visit to Eilean nan Ron is recommended (tight anchorage: we took a line ashore and tied it to the base of the handrail on the steep stairs).
